An Experience of Buying a Barratt / David Wilson Homes New Build Property
Sections in this Article:
Conclusion
Over the last two years, the corrective work undertaken on our new build must have cost £1000s. Perhaps it's a risk developers take, hedging their bets that owners just simply won't spot these issues, or only a few will. The reality is, most of us on the development are on a WhatsApp group and we have all been sharing our experiences; one of us finds an issue and we report to each other. Everyone then checks their own property, and 'Hey Presto!', another report to the developer! For those thinking of buying a development, seeing a house covered in scaffold is a very powerful statement! We've had other residents enquiring what the issues are, no doubt thinking about their own properties.
So, why take so many short-cuts in the first place? Paying a little bit more for a decent job must surely be cheaper than constant repairs and remedial actions? Then there's the poor publicity that may follow [cough].
Barratt's, although painfully slow, have responded and addressed the issues reported. Any out of pocket expenses we've incurred, for the most part, have been reimbursed. Each time compensation has been requested, it has never been considered of offered, although we did once receive a £50 Amazon voucher!
