I have finally got around to editing some video from Lanzarote. Flying above and around the clouds, no words....
19 February 2018 - Packing a Glider for Air Transport
Having scoured the Internet I found it difficult to find a good
guide on how to pack a glider for aircraft shipping. Many people have
done it, commented or advised on forums, sharing their horror
stories, but I struggled to find a complete guide. Having now done
this successfully, I've prepared this guide as a reference for
7 February 2018 - Famara!
To say I was anxious was an understatement, with the wind
increasing, not feeling particularly current, not in great health and
with inbound weather to watch out for, there was much on my mind.
Clipped in, I made my way around Ben then across to John, patiently
waiting on launch. After my hang check was completed, John gave me
one final brief then I instructed "Release"...
9 December 2017 - The Dark Side!
As a hang glider pilot for almost 20 years now, I feel I need to
confess to something that I actually enjoyed; an indulgence of curiosity
that perhaps some would consider sinful - I flew on a paraglider!
29 October 2017 - A Windy Day at Firle
I climbed the uprights and prepared to land and as the ground
neared, I noticed I had started to travel backwards across the
ground. I pulled in hard and looked down towards my feet and the
ground looming up behind me; still flying backwards I could now see
the barbed wire fence coming into view!
23 October 2017 - An Oldie Resurrected
Over 12 years ago I programmed this little classic but as
technology matured, it became increasingly difficult to play this
Java Applet in the browser; however, with Java Webstart Technology,
it's now possible to run this classic once again (just not in your
15 October 2017 - Motivation!
As I began to collect my gear and put it back in the van I noticed
my glider had vanished! I asked Nicos where it had gone and he
smirked and informed me that Maciej had set off up the hill with it!
13 August 2017 - B****cks!
That was the point of no return; despite plenty of opportunity to
prevent it, I had now set in motion a sequence of events that I would
later come to regret...
1 July 2017 - An Early Flight
Luke Nicol was out with Airsports Sussex doing tandem flights on
his rigid wing. At one point he swooped beneath me in an overtake
manoeuvre that gave his passenger quite an experience; I saw him
glance back up at me with a cheeky smirk on his face which I
acknowledged with a wave...
18 June 2017 - Aerotowing
Is Aerotowing a dying art of hang gliding? The Southern Aerotow
Group has struggled over the last two years to gain momentum, in part
due to an aging tug fraught with problems, a not so ideal flying site
and diminishing numbers attending the infrequent flying days...
10 April 2017 - Devil's Dyke
I normally connect with something at Truleigh Hill, but today was a
total disaster - any bit of lift was met with an equal amount of sink
moments later. The result of which meant I had to spend most of my
time scratching back and forth, sometimes flying a little closer to
the hill than comfortable...
