Restormel Castle is a 13th Century Norman castle in the heart of the Cornish countryside. The castle as seen today was built by Edmund, Earl of Cornwall. The castle was not built for defensive purposes, but more as a symbol of power (the large windows looking out on the surrounding countryside would have been a major defensive weakness).
The castle is now looked after by English Heritage. Visitors are able to explore pretty much most of the castle.
